Ali lost the Golden Globes to Aaron Taylor Johnson which was a HUGE HEAD SCRATCHER!
Patel won BAFTA and I believe it will probably be his ONLY win! Patel is British and BAFTA do like to award their own kind PLUS he was pretty good in LION.
It’s still a toss up between Affleck and Washington. Denzel’s performance was great, Casey’s WASN’T PLUS MBTS was blah to me EVENTHOUGH I liked the town setting in Manchester!
Still think MOONLIGHT will pull an upset win for Best Picture, if not them then HIDDEN FIGURES. And maybe Directing too!

Mahershala Ali lost the Golden Globe to ATJ.

I’m okay about La La Land winning Best Picture, but Arrival was my favorite. Isabelle Huppert winning would be extraordinary too.

I watched Manchester by the Sea last week and I really loved it. It would be amazing if it won Best Picture. it is my favourite movie of all the nominees. Although I also liked Moonlight and Arrival. I liked La La Land but I think it is severely overrated. IMO Manchester should win Picture, Screenplay and Actor. Michelle Williams was fantastic but I don’t think anyone can take the Oscar from Viola Davis. I just hope that La La Land doesn’t win the Oscar for original screenplay; Kenneth Lonergan’s script is incredible.

• ‘“La La Land” also tied “Titanic” and “All About Eve” for the most nominations by a single film with 12 nods, quite a historic achievement.’

The record shared between LLL, Titanic, and All About Eve is 14 nominations, not 12.

• ‘It’s actually been 13 years since the SAG winner didn’t go on to win the Oscar for Best Actor when Johnny Depp won the SAG for “Pirates of the Caribbean” and Sean Penn took the Academy Award for “Mystic River.” And that’s the only time they haven’t lined up in 22 years.’

It’s true that Depp is the most recent time SAG didn’t line up with the Oscar for Best Actor, but it’s not the only time as the last sentence says. It’s happened three other times: in 2002, when Daniel Day-Lewis won SAG over Adrien Brody; in 2001, when Russell Crowe won over Denzel Washington; and in 2000, when Benicio del Toro won over Russell Crowe.

• ‘Since “Can You Feel The Love Tonight” from “The Lion King” won Best Original Song in 1995 there have been three pictures that earned multiple nominations in this category. Both “Dreamgirls” and “The Princess and the Frong” earned two nod while “Enchanted” took three.’

Dreamgirls actually had three nominations in the category, not two. And you entirely missed two other movies that have had multiple nominations in the category since The Lion King: Cold Mountain in 2003 and Slumdog Millionaire in 2008, both of which earned two nods. The former lost both to LOTR:ROTK, but Slumdog won for “Jai Ho.”

I’m def interested in seeing Moolight and Fences. Of the films I’ve seen I’d like to see Hidden Figures take it over La La Land. Even Hacksaw Ridge.

Saw Manchester today. I was rooting to see a great Affleck performance because he impressed me in Jesse James. But what I saw wasn’t Oscar worthy. Nor was Gosling, nor Garfield. Viggo was solid, but still I don’t think Oscar. So hopefully Denzel’s performance was great
