I interviewed David Gordon Green, Hill's friend and collaborator, back in 2004, for his film UNDERTOW, and he had talked about how he was outlining a 70s-style action story in the vein of films like GATOR, WHITE LIGHTING, and FEAR IS THE KEY, that centered around backwoods car chases, guns, and moonshine.
This sounds like it could be that. Green even talked about what a huge fan he is of films like that from that era, and what a big influence they had on him.
