Nine was helped tremendously by "musical" categories, but with an Oscar field of 10 who knows. I'm really disappointed that The Road and Viggo didn't pick up a few noms at least for screenplay and cinematography. Looks like The Lovely Bones was the last taste in critics' mouths.

geha714 took the words right out of my mouth.

I do not think that James Cameron will not get a best director nomination, didnt he piss off alot of people in 97' with his titantic spew?

I am very happy to see Kathryn Bigelow and Jeremy Renner on this list. I just saw the hurt locker and it is one of my favorite films of the year

And I'm starting to think James Cameron will be one of the five directors nominated at the Oscars. I think having a new, supposedly visionary, technology and apparently critically successful 3D movie going to be an advantage come Oscar time.

Cameron and Tarantino both nominated here? With not very many big names in the acting categories they might be the biggest draw for the Oscars.

I'm not too surprised with the 10 nominations for 'Nine'. Even if you take away the best picture nom, the other 9 noms are for ensemble cast, marion cotillard, music, make-up, artistry, etc.

Those seemed givens to me, as much as Avatar picking up visual effects nominations.

And some of the reviewers making up the 36% on RT are not exactly top critics. The movie isn't out yet, I'm sure it'll get bumped to at least around 70 on RT and MetaCritic.

The Best Foreign Film nominations are interesting as well. To be expected for most, but I'm a little surprised with Coco Before Chanel. Haven't heard much about it, but it made $29 million abroad.

How did “Nine” manage to lead the pack with 10 noms when right now it sits at a dismal 36% on Rotten Tomatoes?

Two words: Harvey Weinstein.
