Seriously, what do you subscribe to the Pitchfork anal school? Emo is already everything from the early emo-core punk bands to Bright Eyes, to Dashboard Confessional, bands with little to do with each other other than they came from the same woe-is-me, whiny, heart-on-sleeve mien.

Pumpkins may have not sounded like that (again, sound has nothing to do with), but as far as being all those qualities, especially whiny and feeling sorry for oneself?

Holy shit the album was called *Melancholy* & The Infinite Sadness,' (sadness on sadness?) it might has well have been called, Please Wipe My Ass, I'm Sobbing So Much, All I Can Do Is Suck On This Bwottle My Mummy Gave Me."

SP might have preceded when the emo term came around (do yo even remember emo-core before emo?), but it doesn't mean that insufferable whining doesn't come from the same place.
