Nobody is saying it but I will. There is a superhero "bubble" in Hollywood. There is no way that the audience wants to see this many superhero movies over the next 3 years. These things are expensive and the underlying rights holders take a huge chunk. The bottom will blow out at some point when the audience gets sick of all the spandex. At this point, various studios have to have something in the neighborhood of $2 billion or more committed to these things. When this house of cards starts crumbling, I am guessing it will take out at least one major studio, "Heaven's Gate" style.

It is one thing to lose your head and chase a quick turnaround, cheap trend like "Saw"-style gore porn, and quite another to chase a long lead time trend that runs you $200 million a pop.

This is just a disaster waiting to happen.

Don't they think that maybe one of the reasons people didn't go for Brandon Routh was that he just didn't have the gravitas to carry the part due to his age?

And the fact that John Hamm actually auditioned for Superman Returns and was turned down in favor of Routh is astounding. Nothing against Routh, but come on.

Anyone who knows anything about Superman (something like the 3rd most recognizable character in the world) doesn't need to have the origin told one more time. How about surprising us and having the film open with a fight scene against some worthy adversary to show just how powerful a 20-30 something Superman actually is?
