Personally I liked the second season more than the first (although I agree with you about Marco's death - not a plot turn I wanted at all for Kevin). The second season embraced the fact that the story is a slow burn, where the first season felt overly nervous about it, hence the flash forwards, which frankly wrecked the thing for me. The plot around Danny's son also reached a strong catharsis by the end (although at the start he felt like the least realistic teenager in history, and I worried that he would capsize the whole thing). It's funny - as a show a lot of the storytelling choices felt pretty weak, especially John's frustrating passivity - going on the run was basically the first time he actually DID something - but the atmosphere and the setting and the relationships feel so rich that it covered over a lot of the show's flaws for me.
