Check out Marvel's current Black Widow series or the Greg Rucka written miniseries for some great spy stories. She does have enough story to sustain her own picture.

I think people are missing the point reg. the whole Black Widow scene. It says less about the sexism situation in Hollywood and more about how uninteresting as a character Black Widow is. I want to see a standalone Black Widow film as much as I want to see a standalone Hawkeye movie.
Captain America: TWS was the only film (she has appeared in in which the character seemed "slightly" more evolved than a stereotypical sexy kick-ass assassin. Not sure if the comics have meatier stories about her but going by what I have seen – I don't think it will happen. A movie featuring Gamora on the other hand… that would be interesting.
