Netflix did its annual blitz, a big dog and pony show for the press last night, revealing its entire film slate for 2024. Most of the heavy hitters you already know, like Zack Snyder’s “Rebel Moon: Part 2 – The Scargiver,” which we already know, comes out in April, or “Beverley Hills Cop: Axel Foley,” or John Ridley’s “Shirley,” or Richard Linklater’s “Hit Man,” recently announced for a June release, but there’s plenty of surprises and new confirmations too. Oh, and let’s not forget a movie about Pop-Tarts (no, really).
The 100 Most Anticipated Films Of 2024
Some of the big new announcements include Jerry Seinfeld’s “Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story,” the comedians directorial debut, which he also stars in about the race to create the Pop-Tart by Kellogs and Post, featuring an all-star cast that includes Seinfeld, Melissa McCarthy, Amy Schumer, Hugh Grant, Christian Slater, Bill Burr, Daniel Levy, James Marsden, Jack McBrayer, and many, many more. Another big title is the action thriller “The Union,” starring Mark Wahlberg and Halley Berry, about a construction worker who is roped into the espionage world by his former high school girlfriend, directed by Julian Farino (“Entourage”) and penned by hot U.K. writer Joe Barton. Another notable release is “Mother Of The Bride,” starring Brooke Shields, Miranda Cosgrove, and Benjamin Bratt, and a new Woody Woodpecker animated movie, “Woody Woodpecker Goes To Camp.”
Other titles of note include Seth Gordon’s “Back In Action,” starring Jamie Foxx, Cameron Diaz and Kyle Chandler; Brad Peyton’s new sci-fi film, “Atlas,” starring Jennifer Lopez, Sterling K. Brown, and Simu Liu; Malcolm Washington’s “The Piano Lesson,” drama produced by Washington’s father Denzel, starring Samuel L. Jackson, John David Washington, Ray Fisher, Danielle Deadwyler, Michael Potts, Corey Hawkins, Erykah Badu; Sydney Freeland’s “Rez Ball” co-written with “Reservation Dogs” creator Sterlin Harjo; action thriller, “Trigger Warning” featuring Jessica Alba and Mark Webber; McG’s sci-fi film “Uglies” starring Joey King; Ana Kendrick’s directorial debut, “Woman Of The Hour”; Richard LaGravenese‘s “A Family Affair” featuring Nicole Kidman, Zac Efron and Joey King; Juan Carlos Fresnadillo’s “Damsel” featuring Millie Bobby Brown; Lee Daniels’ “The Deliverance” with Andra Day, Glenn Close, Mo’nique, Anthony B. Jenkins, and more;
International cinema has lots to offer too, including a new film by Indonesian action filmmaker Timo Tjahjanto, “The Shadow Strays“; celebrated Mexican cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto’s directorial debut “Pedro Paramo” starring Manuel García-Rulfo and Tenoch Huerta (“Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”), South Korean filmmaker Kim Sang-man‘s “Uprising” co-written with Park Chan Wook starring Gang Dong-won, Park Jeong-min, and Cha Seung-won, sounds good too.
