” But I would rather live in a dumpster, I think, being creatively honest and true to myself than not.” What BS, no one rational and healthy would live in a dumpster to maintain creativity if they had any real experience or idea what is is like to live on the streets. But I appreciate that it is likely just an expression of his conviction to his creativity, and I really liked Chappie and the casting of Die Antwoord, and look forward to seeing his next movies and what possible near-future they show, hopefully not in a dumpster.

I’ve liked all of Blomkamp’s films thus far. He’s one of the few Director’s today working in science fiction that brings a unique perspective and singular vision to a genre that has been co-opted by made-by-committee tent-pole franchise fodder. That goes against everything sci fi should be, because sci fi is supposed to provoke thought, and raise philosophical questions. Not just be about spaceships blowing things up.

I liked Chappie. I thought casting Die Antwoord was weird, and it definitely made the film feel very different from most films, but it had a charm to it. Perhaps a charm that most people wouldn’t get.
