Mad Max, Superman, Batman, Spiderman haven\’t been chronological. Maggie Gyllenhal replaced Katie Holmes in the Dark Knight, no-one complained or when Mark Ruffalo replaced Edward Norton in the Avengers franchise. Just saying that I don\’t think the Alien Franchise should have to stick religiously to canon if there\’s a better idea.
Plus, much as I enjoyed District 9 and Elysium, Chappie was rubbish.

So perhaps Blomkamp was insisting on that and he lost support of Weaver so at the end project lost its legs.
