The Hobbit really shouldn't have been split into two parts in the first place–there simply isn't enough plot for a third film, even adding in appendices. Not if you want to stay true to Tolkien, plus avoid undermining the narrative of the original trilogy. I am very much looking forward to The Hobbit, but going in for a cash-grab like this would just produce a boring, drawn-out narrative that distorts Tolkien's vision and pleases no one.
