I haven't seen Moneyball but that was what bothered me most about Tree of Life (and Pitt's other non-comedic performances). Also, it's good to see that other writers here acknowledge the greatness of A Separation. Kevin Jagernauth's Toronto review of the film in which he called it a trite, melodramatic soap opera was kind of embarrassing, really.

This is probably my favorite top 10 from this site so far. Completely on board with your review of "Shame." I liked it a lot more after I'd just seen it but thinking about it now, I think the film is quite problematic and its vision narrow. Appreciate and agree completely with your takes on "Martha" and "A Separation" which I think will end up being my #1 of the year. I've yet to see "Tinker" but I'll get around to that in 2012. I wasn't particularly a fan of "Drive" but I can't help feeling that though "Point Blank," "Le Samourai," and "Blood Simple" are quite stylish, there seemed to have been more going on under the surface. Your take on "Take Shelter" I agreed with completely, really a shame the ending was such a disappointment, and though I'm a huge Ramsay fan, I was cringing throughout with the heavy-handed symbolism as well.

I understand what you're saying but I saw the ending as perfect and actually hopeful and for me it stands head and shoulders above every other movie this year. Also, didn't see what everyone else saw in Moneyball and found Cold Weather especially dull. But on the plus side, love to see Tinker at number 1 even if I didn't love it, and more love for Weekend is great as well.
