Funny, yeah, we were gonna add
Guillaume Canet's upcoming film, "Little White Lies," that stars Marion Cotillard, but we simply ran out of gas. I'm sure we'll mention it soon once trailers and posters start to hit, it's supposed to come out in France in October.

I saw Nypmh at the Chicago International Film Festival and though I was on four hours sleep, I rather liked most of it. It's definitely some what inscrutable, but so much of it is really great. (Without spoiling anything, be sure not to miss the opening.)

I have been reading about MIN-YE forever, and Hou doing kickass-na is a dream. Also really keen for FAUST, AURORA, and the new Jia. It's all very very very good. Nice work, writers.

Now off to go read the "mainstream" 75. Will BLACK SWAN be on there? And Michael Fassbinder as a centurion in the new Marshall = can't miss, AFAIC.

@Ryan: I had to work with whatever wasn't chosen for the 75+ film main feature. Malick's latest is my most anticipated of this year, but many feel this way and thus "Tree of Life" sort of transcends niche placement.

@Chris: It wasn't my idea to include Haneke, in all honesty. I liked "The White Ribbon" mostly and think his "Time of the Wolf" is very strong, but mostly I find his rigid moralistic influence more distracting than conducive to his films' messages. A formal master to be sure, but his style is just too self-conscious for my liking.

@Anon#2: All the english-language arthouse films I dug up ended up being covered in the aforementioned 75+ feature, so that left the works of (comparatively) lesser known international auteurs to be featured here. I do think "Lucky Life" will be in English though. Re-title the piece in your own mind as you see fit.

I wish people would recognize Haneke as being an extremely talented film-maker. Unfortunately most people seem to only think about how hard their will get when they write about how he is a "finger wagging/wrist slapping" director. How dare he criticize society! That's us! And we're good! He goes too far!

I'd write more, but I have to take care of my dick. It really works!
