I\’ll never understand, save for the performances, why \”When Harry Met Sally\” is considered a classic. It\’s a direct rip-off (some might call it homage) of Woody Allen\’s true classic masterpiece \”Annie Hall\”… right down to certain situations, music cues, use of \”It Had to Be You\” as a major song that binds the characters together, etc. Though this article indicates the influence \”Annie Hall\” had over \”WHMS,\” I still come away from viewing WHMS as a lazy effort for Reiner, even though it was a complete success with romance-starved audiences upon its theatrical release.
