One of the things the article doesn’t address is whether one or more competing studios had a hand in dredging up the rape accusation in order to hobble the Oscar momentum of “Birth of a Nation” and better position their own Oscar prospects.

I find it odd that so many mainstream media outlets were interested in covering the 17 year old accusations of a director no one had heard of, who had directed a movie that hadn’t even been released. It’s not like the networks were hitching their story to a hit film that everyone was talking about. Before the rape coverage, the only people talking about “Birth of a Nation” were film festival nerds and industry insiders.

And now we read that the Oscar chances may have evaporated. How convenient.

I would guess all the Oscar Love for Birth of a Nation will be transferred over to Loving.
