I felt it was a tonally-muddled mess. It goes for a quieter approach than even Absentia, which I appreciated, but the sentimentality tips over into the laughable, the visuals seem well conceived but are let down by excessive and shoddy CG, and the plot is fairly paint by numbers until a decent ending (that is, again, let down by the effects work/budget limitations). It was barely a horror film, which I'd have been fine with if it was, you know, any good.

I'd have a hard time believing it tested better than Oculus if I wasn't already incredibly cynical about testing. There was a germ of a good movie but, yeah... one of my more disappointing film experiences of the last few years. I had just been indoctrinated into the Church of Flanagan a year or two earlier, so to have my faith shaken so soon gave me Lucky McGee flashbacks.

That's disappointing to hear. It was just another generic horror film?

I remember this! I remember thinking... That Flanagan guy will have TWO movies released the same year? He's a beast.

And then, it didn't happen.

Sad for him and the rest of the cast and crew. But glad to know he's unto Stephen King territory now.
