I would be more inclined to take the opinion of the co-writer Jonathan Nolan (who refuses to answer the question 'Was Alfred imagining it') than the actor who played Alfred. The ending is written to be ambiguous and open to interpretation by design.

Didn't see anything ambiguous in that scene at all, more's the pity, it just felt so twee and banal, and added to my dissatisfaction with the film as a whole, a little more ambiguity would have helped.

You know what makes no sense? The fact that he is in an airplane with 5 seconds to go with a 6 mile radius bomb and he just makes it out. Remember Caine's line to let the "truth have its stay" in the movie? Well Bruce is lying by saying he died and moves away, so that goes completely against the theme of the film. there is NO REAL explanation as to how he "survived", just that he did and had an auto pilot. OK cool, but that doesn't explain escaping a 6 mile bomb in less than 5 seconds.

The ending to Inception isn't to blame. The part of the movie where Batman is seen heading out to sea 5 seconds before a nuclear bomb is detonated is. We've been over this people.
