Disney has obviously never met a franchise (or even just a single film) that the studio isn’t interested in rebooting or remaking. Anything that the Mouse House owns the rights to is fair game in the neverending cycle of making “content.” Now that Disney has Disney+ to worry about, you better believe they’ll find a film like the ‘80s comedy classic, “Turner & Hooch,” and decide it’s ripe for the remake. And they’ve found the man that will help bring that new remake to life.
According to Deadline, Disney has hired McG to helm the pilot episode and executive produce the forthcoming “Turner & Hooch” TV series that is destined to arrive on Disney+ in the not-so-distant future. The series is a remake of the 1989 film of the same name starring Tom Hanks as a detective that teams up with a rambunctious dog to help solve crimes and catch bad guys.
The cast for the Disney+ remake includes Josh Peck, Carra Patterson, Brandon Jay McLaren, Anthony Ruivivar, Lyndsy Fonseca, Jeremy Maguire, and Vanessa Lengies. And if you’re curious about which dogs will play Hooch in the series, the French Mastiffs are Arnie, Hammer, Obi, Cyd, and Mya. And we’re sure they’re all very good little puppies that deserve all the love in the world.
Instead of remaking every aspect of the film, Disney+’s version of “Turner & Hooch” will feature Peck in the Hanks role, but this time as a US Marshall and not a detective. And much like the film, the series will follow Turner’s journey of accepting his new pet, Hooch, as the best partner he could ask for.
McG is probably best known for helming the early-00s “Charlie’s Angels” films. However, in recent years, he’s been behind the camera for features such as “The Babysitter,” “Rim of the World,” and “The Babysitter: Killer Queen,” all of which were released via Netflix. So, it’s clear that McG is fully embracing that streaming life.
Production on “Turner & Hooch” is underway, so it’s likely we’ll see this series on Disney+ sometime before the end of the year.
