But this would have been the same period in which Downey was struggling to gain work, as Mel Gibson had to put up collateral to ensure his friend was able to star in The Singing Detective. I don&#x27;t understand how Downey would have gone from that low point to appearing as one of the leads in an expensive blockbuster. Would Warner Bros. have been all that interested in betting all that money on a troubled figure like Downey?]]></description>
