I tried to keep it on the DL with The Tall man review but I have to disagree here. Aja is mediocre at best. Granted at one point (High Tension) Aja was somehow an honest b-movie maker. But it's still a mostly poorly directed movie, and even more poorly edited (nevermind that twist everyone focuses on, that final chase is a joke). Even when he fled Besson’s grip to become Hollywood's fav horror yes-man I thought "hey why not!". But Hill Have Eyes was flawed by it's hypocrisy (from the "govt tests are bad" to the NRA sponsored ending) and it's lack of character development (with the highly notable exception of Ruby) among other things. Finally everything has been said about Piranha which is just what it is : a dumb movie that could have very well be directed by the Joe Francis it pretends to mock. Now the thing is: none of them had a descent script, so he might be able to work with something here ... on the other hand none of them even tried to tell a story of sort, so I really don't see how Aja will deal with this.
