He\’s right about the usual oscar baits à la Imitation Games and Theory…But ironically, they\’re exactly what he seems to advocate; escapism. Guardians is so overrated.

"Guardians" was nominated for Best Visual Effects, Vaughn, you misinformed clown. His whole press tour reeks of sour grapes – he just seems jealous because his films aren\’t making as much money as Nolan\’s, and his films get no awards recognition.

He is right though about the "TV movie" comment. Most of the films nominated won\’t be remembered years from now. Haven\’t seen Guardians by the way.

Still Alice sticks out like a sore thumb in terms of being a TV movie, but it isn\’t nominated for Best Picture, Script or Direction, and that\’s as it should be. Julianne Moore rose above the Lifetime TV movie material, but she\’s the only good thing to come out of that movie. Vaughn is on something if he thinks Birdman, Imitation Game, Nightwatcher or Whiplash are like what you see on TV. Not even on HBO or Showtime, buddy. Those sour grapes are not a good look on you.

Vaughn thinks a director\’s job is to provide two hours of escapism? I’m shocked to hear an actual director share this sentiment. I mean, could you imagine if every director felt this way? That’d be like eating candy for every meal, all the time. And I don’t even like candy. Kingsmen looks fun, though. I like Sam Jackson\’s hats.

He\’s onto something. Theory of Everything totally fits that mold. A by-the-numbers, average biopic supported by one outstanding central performance. I could think of 10 other films that should be in its place, including Guardians of the Galaxy, which for me was just above average.

He wants dumb blockbusters to win Oscars for Best Picture, writing, directing etc. One can make a case for some deserving films in that vein, like Jaws, Raiders, E.T., LOTR. But he seems to be confusing the Oscars and the People\’s Choice Awards.

@Christian, you are as ignorant or densely inept in film as Vaughn seems to be. Saying none of the nominated films won\’t be remembered is highly laughable & grossly misguided. Good portion of these films will be remembered & go down as classic to semi-classic films. Calling the nominated films, TV films? Is a slap in the face to the filmmakers who made them & the craft of filmmaking & storytelling. If your telling me films like "The Grand Budapest Hotel", "Birdman", "Boyhood", "The Imitation Game", "Foxcatcher", & such will be forgotten? Then the craft of cinema is in trouble then because these are films of top quality. Most the nominated films will stand a better chance of being considered classics or semi-classic if not cult classics then the majority of these so-called "blockbuster" films as box-office doesn\’t dictate quality by no means. I\’m a fan of the superhero genre but realistically they are just entertainment fluff outside of Nolan\’s Dark Knight trilogy possibly.

He mentions he grew up in the 70s in a way that he thinks Star Wars defined 70s cinema. foolish statement and I would like to hear William Friedkin put him I his place for such a dumb comment. Seems more and more people want the Oscars to become the MTV Teen Choice Awards, or better yet, the People\’s Choice Awards.
