The “Spider-Man” universe is no longer quite so up in the air. As you may have just read, “Spider-Man” has joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe. What does this mean? Well, the planned “Spider-Man” spin-offs like “Sinister Six” and other mooted films are almost certainly dead and Andrew Garfield is probably not coming back as the webslinger. The new “Spider-Man” will first show up in a Marvel Cinematic Universe film and then will get a stand-alone film on June 28, 2017. That likely means “Spider-Man” will show up somewhere — the teaser post-credits scene? — in “Captain America: Civil War” which is due in theaters May 6, 2016.
Now that Sony and Marvel will be working together, the stand-alone “Spider-Man” movie means a domino effect over at Marvel. Four Marvel films have now readjusted their release dates as follows:
– “Thor: Ragnarok” will now hit theaters November 3, 2017.
– “Black Panther” will make its way to theaters on July 6, 2018
– “Captain Marvel” arrives on November 2, 2018.
– “Inhumans” will now debut in theaters July 12, 2019.
But the previously announced two-part The Avengers: Infinity War movies will stay on the same release dates. May 4th, 2018 and May 3rd, 2019. “Ant-Man” (summer 2015) and “Doctor Strange” (November 2016) remain unaffected. Don’t be surprised if Warner Bros. and Fox try and get out of the way of some of these new dates too.
