If Jean Luc Godard was called in to do the edit I\’d be interested. Why even try to salvage this film? Go for broke with a post modern edit. The bottom line is the expiration date on this film is well past and it will most likely fall flat at the box office.

This movie\’s gonna be such a weird time-capsule to watch, since people\’s faces change a lot in six or seven years, and we\’ll be watching NEW performances from people like Matt Damon, Mark Ruffalo and Anna Paquin that were done years ago.

I liked You Can Count On Me, so I was interested in this anyway, but now, there\’s a whole new curiosity about watching something made in 2005 and released in 2011. How will it fit in with modern movies? It\’ll be a reminder of how quickly filmmaking changes before our eyes.

I used to feel relatively young, longing for the cinema and theatres of the 70\’s, until I read taptup, nostalgic for 2005. Also have to agree with what the author has pared down to the only logical point: why indeed not release the full version to the few specialty/arthouses it will end up in anyway? But boxoffice poison? It\’s not like a 2 1/2 to 3 hour running time cost mass-aimed product like Pirates, Transformers and Avatar too many millions.

I wasn\’t saying it can\’t be done this year, but Scorsese has his hands full editing his first 3D film. I think it\’s a pretty safe bet that no one is going to see a frame of this movie until 2012 at the earliest.

When I read this script, it was clear what needed to be cut: the elaborate sub plot involving the mother of Paquin\’s character (played by Lonergan\’s wife). On paper, it felt really tacked-on, diluting the power of the central narrative, but for obvious reasons, I highly doubt Lonergan will ever come to his senses and cut this.
