Actually, Chris, that's an awesomely good question. The quote reproduced here originally was verbatim what she said, however she did subsequently make an allusion to the lobsters in passing, that I have now added. My recollections of the film are obviously hazier than I thought, as I must have conflated the two characters of Pam (Duvall) and the lobster-scene-recreation lady into one, and since it was the role of Pam that Weaver is reported elsewhere as having scored, I didn't question it.

However, now double checking all of that, I think you're right to query. She seems to be referring to the other part, not Pam, as far as I can see (though both are humorless!). So unless she auditioned for that role, but was offered Pam, which she then turned down for the third non-speaking role (unlikely), my guess is it's been misreported.

Thanks for pointing this out, I have edited the piece above as a result.

Quick question for the author of this post. (I'm only trying to clarify because I wasn't there for the whole interview.) In regard to the role in "Annie Hall" that Weaver was reading for, did she confirm that it was indeed the part that went to Shelley Duvall? Because the way she described the role ("it’s the part of the girl he tries to create the same love with that he has with Annie Hall") makes it seem like she's actually talking about the role of the unnamed woman with whom he recreates the lobster scene, to no avail. The lack of sense of humor certainly applies to Pam, but the other woman seems to be a better fit for the description overall (not only is Alvy/Woody literally recreating a scene/memory from from his relationship with Annie, but the woman proves herself completely humorless when Alvy makes the crack about quitting smoking 16 years ago). Anyway, just a thought. I wasn't sure if Weaver clarified or confirmed the role at any point during that discussion.
