Seriously, he need to go for the sequel 🙁 Or if you won't do that, bring in someone like James Roberts to write it with him. James Roberts was a Transformers fanfiction writer that became an official TF comic writer. And with good reason! He originally joined the Transmasters UK fan club, and there he wrote a lot of TF fanfics, some with co-writers, including Nick Roche, who also became an official TF comic writer. Roberts quickly improved tremendously. And then it came to Eugenesis, which he spend many years on. It turned out as the single best piece of Transformers fiction, an epic story where the Autobots were forced off the Earth, out of Autobot City, by Quintesson forces. In the story, the Quintessons are planning to take over Cybertron, and they succeed. The way the story is written, and the plot constructed, is beautiful. Roberts have become a great character writer. He can take any character, bland or rounded, and do things with them that really define them as individuals. The story is supposed to be in the Transformers Marvel UK continiuty, so it has some things that differ from the US one. For example, it includes Death's Head, a very cool robotic, interdimensional traveling "private detective" and "bounty hunter." He calls himself a "freelance peace-keeping agent" ironically.) Death's Head has appeared in many of the different Marvel UK comic universes, including Transformers and Doctor Who. He came there through time and space. So he's been kind of a mascot thing for Marvel UK I guess. His role in Eugenesis is pretty cool. He is the one that finds the Quintessons. The story is very brutal and action-packed, while all action and locations are described in a very beautiful and professional way. And even though it has that much brutality and action, it still definies a lot of characters very well, and that's an understatement. He also keeps everyone pretty intact, with their morales, personalities and everything It's not perfect though, but it's definitely better than what Goyer did in the writing of Man of Steel. Eugenesis propelled Roberts to "stardom" among hardcore Transfans, who's usually the ones that know of Eugenesis, and it also brought caught the attention of Hasbro, who hired him at recommandation by Nick Roche, who had been hired before Roberts. And there he started to write official Transformers comics. He has now become one of the most popular writers they have, even exceeding Simun Furman, whose works don't quite cut it these days. He's better at the random kind of hero vs baddies G1 episode thing. Roberts have worked on the amazing miniseries The Last Stand of the Wreckers, arguhably the best Transformers comics out there. Even when he write those official stories, he puts more effort into the stories than most other writers working on commissioned, commercial stuff. Also, Eugenesis have the single best rendition of Optimus Prime. Check it out on TF Archive through Google.

I've often said that Michael Bay should throw out Ehren Kruger and do the next film Transformers film with James Roberts. He should have done that with the fourth movie. There, did it again! Or he could have adapted Eugenesis. It would make for one hell of a great Transformers film. The very best! 🙂 Perhaps Zack Snyder should try that…? Or Neill Blomkamp, that would be awesome!

Even if MOS is great (and I'm betting it is- can't wait for The Playlist's review), I can't imagine Snyder as anything more than a great visualist and an abhorrent storyteller. I'm thinking Goyer is what will make or break the franchise and seeing what he has done in the past, I have faith in him.

Please please please let Snyder's be the first of a much better set of drafts. Just sketch it out man (Luthor is a layup; get a little dirty to set up DARKSEID or DOOMSDAY for Justice League), and get back in your directing-VFX supervising corner.
