While there seems to be a big debate raging this year about superhero fatigue and the decline of Marvel Studios, Sony has quite a few new superhero films ready to go over the next year or so. You have to imagine the studio is desperately hoping superhero fatigue will take a break in 2024. We’ve already seen the trailer for “Kraven the Hunter,” and now, we have yet another Sony superhero film, “Madame Web.”

There’s been a lot of discussion about “Madame Web” during the film’s production. Many thought it was just a cover for a bigger event-style film that would really lay the groundwork for the future of the disparate Sony ‘Spider-Man’ spinoff universe (“Venom,” “Morbius,” “Kraven,” etc…) through the use of Dakota Johnson’s new character Cassandra Webb. Well, as seen in the trailer for the film, that’s not the case. “Madame Web” is just another origin story about a relatively unknown ‘Spider-Man’ supporting character, in an attempt by Sony to build its own version of the MCU.
“Madame Web” tells the story of Cassandra Webb, a paramedic who begins to experience visions of the future. She then finds herself on the run, alongside a group of young women with potential superhero futures, from Ezekiel, a man who is trying to prevent some sort of future from happening. Yes, this really does sound like the ‘Spider-Man’ version of “Terminator.” But hey, at least it’s different.
Joining Johnson in the cast are Sydney Sweeney, Celeste O’Connor, Isabela Merced, Tahar Rahim, Mike Epps, Emma Roberts, and Adam Scott. “Madame Web” is directed by S.J. Clarkson.
“Madame Web” is expected to arrive in theaters on February 16, 2024. You can watch the trailer, as well as a behind-the-scenes featurette, below.
