Maps to the Stars is stellar, from the script to the casting, it all clicks. Evan Bird was outstanding as Benji, totally believable and frightening, and Julianne Moore is better in this than she was in Still Alice. Cronenberg still has it. Only he could deliver this kind of delicious skewering of tinseltown. Those who want to pigeonhole him can just keep moving.

i love me some cronenberg, but Maps to the Stars is his weakest effort to date. bad dialog, bad casting (cusack and the one-note kid), bad cgi, bad screenplay. there was a good film to be made with the story but Maps wasn\’t it. hope his next endeavor is better. hopefully he\’ll film his novel, Consumed.

of all the great pontificators of film, Cronenberg is definitely my favorite. he never seems to give out stock answers and he\’s got NPR level rhetoric and voice.

no one is pigeonholing cronenberg, Blue. anyone who has even remotely paid attention to his last five releases will tell you he is definitely a versatile director. for my part, while i enjoyed mia wasikowski and j. moore, i couldn\’t help but feel the other actors didn\’t deliver. the *spoiler* dog scene was laughably bad, so was the bathroom choking scenes. *spoiler* i blame the screenplay. i think cronenberg should have given it a thorough rewrite and maybe cast viggo as the father character. cusack added nothing to the role. Maps is a mediocre movie, at best, and this is coming from a huuuge cronenberg fan.
