First off, Great Film! I guess my opinion counts bc I\’m a white female or does gender matter too? I\’m not in the industry but I first heard about the film on a Wired review which singled out Seoul Searching from Sundance. The writer was a white female. From Rotten Tomatoes, where this movie is 100% on the meter. Crave Online & Hollywood Reporter gave good mention – check those out if you are going to be bias. Movie was moving & it gave so much. I enjoyed every minute of it. Impressed with the casting too.

Not so much about taste as credibility. You\’re thinking about how much more he\’s gonna hype this film because he\’s Asian, whereas a White or Black reviewer would have no reason to hype a bad film about the Asian-American experience just to help out the nascent Asian-American film scene. I\’ve seen a number of really bad "Asian-American experience" films which got absurdly good reviews from Asian-American reviewers.

Totally agree DAVE, because your ethnicity dictates your taste in films, perhaps Mr. Tau should not review asian restaurants as well?

I wish this review had been written by someone without an Asian last name. It would lend the assessment more credibility than leave the reader with the feeling that "oh, he\’s just trying to promote this film about his own people". I feel like if a white dude read a review about a film like this, and it was written by another white dude, or a black dude (or woman) then they would think "oh, this film could appeal to me, or to people in general who do not necessarily belong in this subgroup".
