Not that subversive. Costner would have to go a long way to top the bad guy he played in 3000 Miles to Graceland with Kurt Russell. And… well…. Death Proof is Q\’s one unwatchably horrific movie so bad it should be deleted from his resume. He reinvented the slasher movie by making a fucked up slasher movie. The only props it deserves is to be torched to the laughter of a really pissed Jewish chick. Did I mention Death Proof was a terrible movie?

I wish Death Proof got a little more love and thought from critics, even if only for the cleverness of making two-movies-in-one in for the 2nd half of your double feature. Death Proof part 1 is one kind of 70\’s indie film, of the early Wes Craven style, and Death Proof part 2 is another — a summer action B film, like Grand Theft Auto. And it\’s pretty slick that Tarantino uses the difference between them to generate both shock (Butterfly) and tension (thinking the girls in the 2nd half are ever in danger, when it\’s not that kind of film). Not to mention Russell terrifying in 1, and hilarious in 2; two perfectly played characters. Give the damn thing some props!
