BEF and Cary: Kudos on the observations. La Dolce Vita and The Great Beauty have been compared to one another since the release of the latter. If only some of Knight of Cups took place in Rome, then we\’d have a loose trilogy to enjoy.

I feel bad for you Jayson. To call Malick\’s films dumb and mindless black holes suggests you have little appreciation for our place,(or loves place), in nature and the cosmos, which to me is one of the primary themes of his films. Our human struggles seem miniscule when we pull back and see all of the universe and the events that have shaped it over unknown spans of time, but when up close we also can see that to those involved in these struggles their lives are the whole of the universe as they see it. Macro and microcosm all at once. As above so below. If you want a deeper appreciation of Malick I would recommend reading about the occult and the balancing of energy forces. Start trying to remember your dreams more often and attempt to ascertain the deeper meaning as it relates to you and only you. Look for synchronicities to show the connective tissue between your experiences. Maybe try some of those dreaded mushrooms that turn people into tree hugging hippies and stop being so jaded.
