Am I the only one who finds "riveting" performances by Kate Hudson and Jessica Alba a little hard to imagine?

I don't know if the bleak noir will hold up in film form since it works so well because of by Jim Thompson's prose in the novel. I still want to see it (despite Alba and Hudson being attached).
The poster is nice, though.
