Portman may have a stranglehold on the role if she wants it. She also auditioned opposite DiCaprio for Romeo and Juliet. Luhrman was sold on her then except for one problem — she seemed much too young against DiCaprio at the time and he feared it might seem like he was robbing the cradle. It\’d be interesting to see that audition because she was apparently really something with plenty of chemistry going on.
