Rickman has directed television, stage and at least one other film. He's a wonderful actor and from I've seen just as wonderful a director.

The Winter Guest was a terrific little movie, so I would say that Alan Rickman has shown some merit as a director.

I suggest casting Keira Knightley in a part in this film. Now with her and Winslet that would be an original cast for a period film.

Rickman has only directed one film though, which isn't really enough to judge him as a director. This could be good.
