I think of the extended universe type films, only the Avengers have gone well over 1 billion though. (Well, CA:CW was really more like an Avengers film). With Home Alone with Tony Stark (IM 3) being the one exception. A stinky film that did very well.

In reply to Vos_L. It all started when MoS underperformed. They shat their pants, and decided to go straight for BvS, because they needed a bonafide hit. Worst. Franchise. Move. Ever. (or was that hiring Zack Snyder to steer the ship? We'll never really know).

WB made Man of Steel and was planning on making a sequel. They were desperate for franchises with the Dark Knight trilogy over and Harry Potter and the Hobbit concluding. So WB decided to turn Man of a Steel 2 into B vs. S and launch a cinematic universe building off MoS. They announced 10 movies from 2016 to 2020 on an investor conference call in order to appease investors that they still had franchise movies coming out (including milking Harry Potter for more with Fantastic Beasts movies). Not even halfway thru that slate, and they now have Wonder Woman 2 coming out before Flash and Green Lantern….and have a ridiculous amount of other new movies in development: Suicide Squad 2, Justice League Dark, The Batman, Batgirl, Gotham City Sirens, Nightwing, an untitled Joker and Harley Quinn film, a second Superman solo film, and untitled solo films for Black Adam, Deadshot, Lobo and Deathstroke. They are all over the place….there’s no real plan….they change their “plan” every month. WW director was replaced due to creative differences. Batman movie has been a mess, they were going to build around Affleck and now he may be done already, Flash movie has lost multiple directors, WB interfered a lot with Suicide Squad production. WB is more interested in announcing future movies than making good movies. WB has completely bungled what should have been an awesome series of movies. They wanted Avengers-sized paydays but didn’t want to put the time, effort, thought and resources into building towards Justice League. They want to fast-forward through the cinematic universe building and the decision was doomed to fail from the start.
