In your heart, you know Zod and origin was the wrong call. In truth, we should have seen this coming when the doucy nerd Snyder came on board. For a man who makes such pretty visuals, he has a surprising lack of imagination. If he can\’t literally pull an image off the comic book page, he has no idea what to do. He is a paint-by-numbers guy. Superman Returns felt like opening a dusty attic trunk, full of Donner relics. Having deemed this a colossal failure, Warner will now repeat the exercise in Superman II: The Snyder Cut.

Yes, he is cheap and so I can see his appeal to the bean counters. \”Hey, he is human looking and has all the same powers as Superman, so we don\’t have to pay out for any different effects!\” Which is part of the problem. Boring. We\’ll see Superman use freeze breath, then see Zod use freeze breath. We\’ll see Superman throw something heavy, then see Zod throw something heavy. Snoozzzze.

Meanwhile the Transformer trailer shows us buildings being eaten and eye-popping mechanical creatures. It is so frustrating that Superman movies never progress anywhere. Everything feels recycled and stale.
