From your post above,
“If true, it was a little disingenuous of Whedon to suggest otherwise, considering we’re sure he was aware of the outrage that would result from his fans.”

Huh?

Joss Whedon was offered “a role” in the Buffy remake in May 2009, after Kazui Enterprises, the original producers, had announced the reboot and after they got a barrage of negative reaction. Being offered a role is not the same thing as being offered production control. Kazui Enterprises did not make that kind of an offer to him in 2009. And no one has said the new consortium of producers made that kind of an offer either. Joss already went down this path with the original movie (1992). He wrote the original script but the Kazuis changed it so much he got so mad he walked away from it. That’s why the TV series, which Joss did produce, is so different from, and so much better than the movie. And that’s probably why Joss declined to participate in the remake. They never wanted him. They just wanted his name.
