When it comes to blockbuster season, most filmmakers at that level just want to survive. They want to make it through the press gauntlet, please the superfans and then cross their fingers that audiences buy tickets in the kind of numbers that make studio executives happy. So it’s not often you see directors take pointed shots at each other, but "Avengers: Age Of Ultron" director Joss Whedon has just put "Jurassic World" helmer Colin Trevorrow on notice.
Yesterday, the first clip from "Jurassic World" made the rounds. It set up a frosty relationship between Chris Pratt‘s more earthy Owen Grady and Bryce Dallas Howard‘s more buttoned up Claire Dearing. Those are pretty familiar character tropes, which is exactly the problem for Whedon who hit Twitter to call out the "70s era sexist" depictions.
This is a pretty big swing by Whedon, and we’ve gotta wonder not just how Universal feels about this, but also Marvel, considering Pratt is part of the Marvel brand via "Guardians Of The Galaxy." Trevorrow hasn’t yet responded, but watch the clip below and let us know what you think. "Jurassic World" opens on June 12th.
