The cinematograhy is amazing, and Mann’s decision to pare down exposition and character development to a bare minimum is pretty brave for a summer blockbuster. Colin Farrell is awful in it though!

One example, the wardrobe department tailored two suits for me, letting the sleeves out 1/2 inch on one of them…1/2 inch of sleeve on a guy who is one of hundreds of people in a ten-second scene in Union Station. At the Biograph Theatre, some of us were even given 1930s money to use when buying our movie tickets and real 1930s treats at the cigarette stand. (And he’s right about Christian Bale…intense guy.)
