Hillcoat has proven that he doesn\’t deserve this material. All three of those films that "got away" were infinitely better because their respective productions escaped his butchering.

There are already screenplay adaptations by both William Monahan and Tommy Lee Jones that are supposedly quite strong (especially the Jones version). If Rudin wants to do this project justice, he should put one of the major filmmakers from his stable on it: Fincher, P.T. Anderson, or the Coens. Hillcoat would be a disaster.
