Concordantly, as with the history of other forms of storytelling, I think we're getting to a point where re-telling a story gains or loses merit by the context. I'm usually the first one to bitch about remakes, but context is pretty important. Verhoeven's RoboCop is a gem of a satire about 80's consumerism, masked in excess violence. I would think we live in fairly interesting times to explore these themes again, and the developments that have taken place between then and now should be interesting to touch upon as well.

Padilha is a strong talent behind the camera, The Elite Squad series were miles above the average Hollywood action thrillers. They had brains. I'm optimistic about this one.
