Everybody I know left the theatre saying, \”Do you get it? It\’s based on a real slum.\” I thought — \”Well, obviously, you fucking morons.\” If Clint Eastwood had made a movie about an alien rugby team that plays in an Ender\’s Game-style floating holochamber, and called it Planet Invictus, would people have gone friggin\’ insane for it?

Why do directors have to be so obvious with their messages? I liked \”District 9\”, but when people left the theatre, they said, \”If aliens did come down, that\’s what would happen. That\’s how we\’d treat them,\” shaking their heads.

It\’s more interesting to incite a discussion than just to slam down a message about what is right and wrong.
