Speaking recently to E! News, Jessica Chastain put to bed the rumors and fancasting that has her starring in the upcoming adaptation of the novel, “The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo.” The book has a massive following online, and fans of the novel have been hoping that Chastain would star in the film. This fan excitement is so strong, Chastain has even seen it bleed into her real life. Unfortunately for fans, the actress says there’s “zero possibility” that she will star in the film, but she’s happy for people bringing her name up.
“I love how excited the fans are,” Chastain said. “When I was working on Broadway, every single day, they’d be outside, when I was signing, with the books. I just love how wonderful that fan base is.”
Chastain added, “I look forward to watching it, and I’m sorry to disappoint everyone out there!”
“The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo” is a historical fiction novel about Evelyn Hugo, an Old Hollywood star who is recounting her love affairs over the course of her long life. Fans have been hoping that Chastain would star as Celia St. James, the rival of Hugo who actually turns into a secret paramour.
A film adaptation has been set up at Netflix for a while now, but there’s no news on casting for the project. However, even though it’ll likely nab some big names, Chastain will not be among them.
