I actually like the Pirates franchise. Under Verbinski they were exciting and stylish. The formula\’s perhaps wearing a bit thin, but given that they\’re essentially big-budget Saturday serials, I can see why Disney wants to keep it running.

They say it\’s up to Depp but since when has a studio let an actor, no matter how successful, determine their next move.

If Depp didn\’t want to do Pirates 5 does anyone think Disney wouldn\’t immediately do a spinoff with one of the Brits introduced in \”On Stranger Tides\”? Or more likely they\’d just go with a damn prequel of a young Jack Sparrow (played by whichever long haired fellow they could find who can sashay & still make preteen girls swoon) on his first voyage out to sea.
