I don't envy the actors. Lemmon and MacLaine are paragons and I think Shirley was the prettiest woman that ever graced the screen. Even though I like Rudd, I find him a bit too attractive for the role of C.C. Baxter. Sandler or Bateman would have been a better choice. However, I reiterate my dislike of remakes.

You guys are funny. Though many Playlist writers are based in NYC, we have several LA writers and contributors who cover events over there and personally, I like LA. (It's my favorite suburb!) I've been jealously reading accounts of the Live Read's out there on other sites for the past 6 months so was super excited to see them finally bring them to NYC and as you can see, it was worth the wait. I'm a fan of the actors in the LA version (Portman esp.) but judging from the clip I saw on YouTube from their performance, it seemed considerably more casual and just not on the same level as the one I saw last night. Of course, the scene I watched may not have been representative of the whole piece but that's why I said, "it'ÂÂs hard to imagine" that it was as good. Because it was hard to imagine it.

I very much enjoy The Playlist, and often comment with civility and thumbs up. This is the only negative comment I've left, perhaps because I am in the midst of an 80 hour work week testing mostly awful TV pilots and come here occasionally for down time, perhaps I am scrambled. But really if someone wasn't at an entirely different production there's no need to compare them. If you see them both, compare away. I enjoyed the Live Read series at LACMA, but the ones in New York will be different because a) it's been done before and Reitman is more seasoned from audience responses, or different ideas from seeing it live before and b) it will be different casts. and c). I would like a little more LA event reporting here, because I live here and I come to this site daily and it's, you know, still the main reason why sites like this exist but we still are portrayed as less cultured often times (not in this article, I'm just saying in general, it'd be nice for event recaps that show that there are cool things happening … now I really am rambling because I've been working for hours on things I hope you guys never have to see on TV….)

this site gets more unwarranted shit from its readers than any other i know. people who write for playlist must hate 75% of us. and for what it's worth, i'd pick paul rudd and emma stone over steve carell and natalie portman any day, even though all four of those actors are great.

Thanks for writing about the LA ones, too. What about the all black cast of Reservoir Dogs? Why does The Playlist hate LA so much? It's a bit ironic, isn't it? Plus LA was Natalie Portman and Steve Carrell. NYC's is the same template as that but younger.
