I\’m confused. Did he write any of the script for either the first or second film, and thus accountable for the failure, or was he just a puppet told to say his lines?

I think what did the second one in was timing. They put it out in the middle of the holiday where there\’s a lot of family, holiday and Oscar-contending films are released. They should\’ve put this out in the summer that way the "Horrible Bosses 2" could\’ve been rolled out bigger.

Well, I don\’t think he\’s contradicting himself or being disingenous. The movie does make an effort to have some twists, not just be a straight rehash of the first one. The ideas of taking a job for the money and still putting in a solid effort are not mutually exclusive.
