Just my humble opinion. I am a big fan of Amy Adams. However, Janis died a long time ago and anyone under 50 won't have a clue who she is or what this incredibly talented woman contributed to the world of music. This movie could go down in flames if it doesn't offer a bridge beween the generations. I would like to see a real talent in the music world to play this part. Someone with the stage presents and personality to play both the entertainer role and the personal role to help portray and understand Janis. It would be a mistake not to consider Grace Potter.

Funny, the very thing that I dislike most about Amy Adams is her annoying voice. It was good for her Junebug character but it has been not so good for some of her other characters. Maybe she will find her voice playing Joplin. At least Amy has the round face.

What a delicious dilemna. My two favorite actresses, bar none. Amy Adams is now our most talented and versatile actress (who isn't named Meryl Streep), and she will absolutely kill in this role, just as she does in every single character she's ever played. Don't worry about which Janis not being her "type" of character – if you've seen all her films, you know she HAS no type – she really can do it all.
And having seen Nina Arianda this year on Broadway in "Venus in Fur", all I can tell you is Look Out – she's really got IT!
Being old enough to have been a fan of Janis while she lived, for me there's no such thing as too much of a good thing. Plenty of room for these two brilliant, talented women to interpret the life of this gifted and tormented artist – there's so much there to work with. Just hope the media doesn't try to start some sort of a cat fight between them, although that would be kinda hot, now that I …

I love Amy Adams and I'm sure she would sell the crap out of this as she does every role but am I the only person that wants her in something different? I know she was attached to the Steve Martin "Object of Beauty" project and there was a rumor or being in "Dark Places." Plus, she's now tied to the Superman franchise going forward and I expect they hope that will be a trilogy. And, mainstream or not, I want her to be a part of the Superman franchise as Lois Lane going forward. I don't want her to be recast. I guess I just think she's a really talented, funny, beautiful actress and I don't need to see her play another drug addict like she did in On the Road. Am I nutso here?
