TRON: LEGACY did it four years ago. The dialogue scenes were 2.35, while the action scenes exploded out to fill the screen in 1.78. In addition, the real world bookend sequences were 2D, while the Tron world portion was 3D, like the use of color in The Wizard of Oz. The last Mission Impossible movie also switched aspect ratios for the action scenes in its IMAX presentations.
