I didn't read this as the possibility that he would get rid of Cumberbatch, but simply that he might need another actor or two also signed up. It is a little tactless, but probably a very honest remark (of the sort that one should probably not make publicly). I would imagine that The Fifth Estate would be a good test case for Cumberbatch's draw, since the film has received mostly negative reviews.

If he really wants a big budget for lost city of z, then they're gonna be shelling out even more money to pay for a bankable star. Most of them wouldn't be right for this part, other than maybe Robert Downey Jr. (who can convincingly play British) but I doubt he would do any project for less than $20 million these days.

Wha? Radius is releasing The Immigrant? Between that news and Weinstein dragging feet over the cut of "Snowpiercer" is TWC ONLY going to widely release award grabs? Will Weinstein start losing auteurs?
