One of my favorite books from my favorite author. I trust Franco when he says that he\’ll be faithful to the source material, but this is undoubtedly a tough egg to crack, despite his beaming optimism. There\’s been like, what, one adaptation of a Faulkner book, The Sound and the Fury, that was apparently horrid. And most likely for the same limitations of the narration as in As I Lay Dying. But that was like 50 years ago, so I\’ll give Franco the benefit of the doubt and reconcile that movie making styles and standards have changed drastically over the decades. The cast does look pretty good, I think I would have Shannon as Cash and Phoenix as Darl.

Hm. Jenkins could pull off the father, though he\’d have to let himself go a little bit. Joaquin and Shannon would be a great Cash, though I bet they\’ll make him Darl because he\’s more \”sensitive\” looking than Shannon. Dano as Jewel could work, too. Good cast.
