The tribal elder's response is fascinating. It seems that Cameron really is too close to the material (and is too tied in with the action cinema way of thinking) that he didn't see the ugly side of endorsing violence as a way to fight violence, and portraying it as a foolproof solution. It's one of the film's biggest problems, and a lot of supposedly perceptive viewers didn't notice it over here (or at least didn't seem to have any problem with it).
It will be interesting to see if Cameron can capture the public's imagination and money once again if he does propose diplomacy over violence in the sequel, or if it will be derided by the masses. My thinking, in a world where The Expendables is the number one film in the biggest film market in the world, it will be the latter.

He felt like he had been punk'd? What? Is it possible he has gotten so close to his movie that he can't see a big message in it is using violence to solve problems? To people who have never seen a movie I would think the action would be pretty tough to look past.
